A Journey begins with a step
One of every creative’s most daunting tasks is designing their portfolio — not because it’s particularly difficult but rather because it’s easier to design for others than for yourself. This mostly comes as a result of there being so many directions you could go while designing for yourself, the lack of constraints make the options become overwhelming and you eventually stall.
Well, I tricked myself into breaking that loop by calling it a v1. There’s something about calling something a draft versus a final work that mentally frees you from the pressure of perfection. So I decided to use Framer to build my portfolio. I wanted it to be beautiful, showcase my personality, skillset, experience and be easily scalable as my career advances.

Designing for who I am becoming
Gathering Inspiration
It was tough gathering inspiration as there are so many beautiful portfolios out there, but I tried not to get overwhelmed. I gathered sections I liked from various portfolios and started building my own versions of them.

Some portfolios I was inspired by
My Identity
I created my logo when I started freelancing in 2020 and I chose a typeface that is easy to read and beautiful. I create assets from my brand identity that I use in daily life like wallpapers I use on my devices, shirts, documents and Contact Cards

Brand Assets
Framer Development
I realized that using neutral colors makes the work easier so I stuck with that. I wanted a layout with fixed, large margins so the content is easy to scan through even on large desktops. I showcase my work skills and tools I use giving an idea of where I’m at career-wise. I also linked my current on-repeat playlist, favorite show and screenshots from my favorite games.

About Me
From popular portfolios, I learned the best practice is to put your work front and center so I did that by having some shots scroll in the hero section and making my projects the first thing you see when you scroll above the fold.

Hero Section
Then my work experience that also displays things I designed at each company when you hover on it and testimonials from people I’ve worked for and with.
Work History
Reflections
This is still v1 and I plan to add a playground where I showcase stuff I designed for fun and a service rate cardso visitors can hire me for specific services directly from my page.
