SOSNeeds: Help for Siblings of Special Needs Individuals
SOSNeeds is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families and individuals navigating the complexities of special needs. Through tailored programs, advocacy efforts, and educational resources, SOSNeeds strives to bridge gaps in accessibility, inclusivity, and understanding for the special needs community in Nigeria.
SOSNeeds needed a website that reflects the heart of their mission, which is, empowering families to create brighter futures. The website needed to be visually appealing, easy to navigate, and capable of accommodating the organization's diverse audience, including families, volunteers, and donors.

Responding to Needs
Project Discovery
I was approached by Barr Ify the founder of SOSNEEDS that they urgently needed a website and professional emails to apply for a program. We arranged for a meeting to go through the requirements. I came into the project as a creative developer and worked closely with the organization’s creative designer, Hakeem.
Hakeem walked me through the Figma Designs when we had an in-person meeting. I asked a couple of questions and pointed out some things which could improve the user experience. Hakeem worked on these pretty quickly and soon I was given the link to the design file and a folder full of content they would want to have on their website including books, brochures, policy documents and photo albums.
Setting up…
After I received the resources, I helped my client create a Hostinger account and they paid for the domain name and hosting. Once I got confirmation of their payment on the account, I created professional emails for their staff and created a document where I shared the details with the admin email account. Then I installed WordPress on their domain and started installing my go-to plugins for WordPress Development; (Elementor Pro, Master Addons and a few others).
Development
Of course, it’s best to start with the reusable components (header and footer) so I built those first. Then the Homepage, About page, Program Details page, Blog/News/Events, Donate and Get Involved pages.
Well of course it wasn't straight for no project ever is. I felt we had a bit too much and back and forth on some... for example the typeface to use on the Hero section was changed like 10-15 times during development.

Hero Section
I also had to step into Figma to run custom illustrations for the "How We Help" section.

Illustrations
I also created a Book Cover and illustration for the Newsletter cover and business journal.

SOSNeeds turned out to be the project where I created the most forms. Every program accepts submissions which they use to plan and conduct physical trainings.

I was also super proud when I was offered the opportunity to be included in the distinguished list of contributors to SOSNEEDS.

After development was completed, I felt a sense of accomplishment and joy not only at a job well done but also the thought that my work would help make the lives of people I’ve never met better (which is the main reason we do this).

Impact
This was my first time working with a nonprofit and it was a great experience. I am also pleased to announce that they got into the program they applied for. Made new friends and got into contact with a Barristerrrr. Huge W in my books.
